C5 Education Seminar
The second workshop was the training course C5 within the Rapromise project, which took place by the Institute of Engineering Design and Logistics Engineering of the Vienna University of Technology from 18 September 2017 to 22 September 2017. The Participants were from the companies CMS and VESTEL which are located in Turkey. CMS Group is one of the important producer of aluminum wheels and VESTEL is mainly active in the field of consumer electronics, white goods, digital products, information technology and LED lighting.
The each day of the training included theory, and then examples for the understanding the theory part, finally practical part that had to be completed by the attended participants. The training course contained mainly following subjects:
- Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- Database and Database Modeling
- Bill of Material, Product Structure, Version and Variant
- Product Development methodology
- Systems Engineering, V-Model and RFLP approach
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)
Monday 18 Sept. 2017, in the first part of the training, the course started with a short summary of PDM and PLM introduction so that objectives and content of the training activities could be understand. After that Database and Database Modeling was explained respect to the PDM system. For the Database modelling the methodology of ER modelling (Entity-Relationship-Model) and some ER Model examples were shown. Practical examples were also conducted by the participants to understand how ERM transformation into a physical data model occurs. The participants had the possibility to see some real example such as PTC Product Development System, Siemens PLM Teamcenter, Catia V6 PLM Platform, Windchill, CIM Database.
Tuesday 19 Sept. 2017, some important theme such as Bill of Materials, Product Structure, Version and Variant were highlighted. Moreover follow-up discussion conducted about Product Structure Management and Configuration Management. A practical task based on 3D Printer in Pilot Factory TU Wien was completed. The task aimed to basic understanding of PLM / PDM, for example, Product Data from Product Development, PDM Data Structure. In the afternoon, the theory of the development methodology was explained which mainly included methodical approach in development or design according to VDI guideline 2221.
Wednesday 20 Sept. 2017, participants had the opportunity to understand the importance of methodical design and development by means of a practical task. In this part a Coffee Automat had to be conceptual developed according to the steps of the process model VDI guideline 2221. Participants conducted the following steps; clarify(specify) the requirements list, conceptual design, function modelling and structuring, searching of working principles, finding overall solutions, assessment of suitable variants. In the afternoon, system engineering and V-Model were explained for the interdisciplinary product or system development (Mechatronic Product/Systems). The VDI guideline 2206 was shown, which describes the basic procedure for the development of mechatronic systems as logical order. Moreover Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) as well as SysML-Systems Modeling Language were highlighted, and also SysML Diagram Overview such as Requirement Diagram, Block Definition Diagram, Use Case Diagram was presented with an example (Pedelec).
Thursday 21 Sept. 2017, the RFLP Approach (Requirement, Function, Logical Solution Element, Physical Element) was firstly shown and then participants worked with a 3D printer example, which is the sample product in the TU Wien Pilot Factory. Participants prepared and worked with SysML System Model by RFLP approach to understand how development methodology of a mechatronic product can be applied.
In the afternoon the participants visited TU Wien Pilot Factory which had established at Vienna University of Technology to do research on intelligent production systems. The pilot factory focuses on new concepts and solutions for a variety of serial production (low volume – high mix) in the discrete manufacturing industry. The sample product manufactured in the pilot factory is a real product 3D printer, which will be available in several variants. Participants had the opportunity to observe and get the information about product development, production und management processes of this product.
On the last trainings day, 22 Sept. 2017, participants learned first Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) which is a graphical specification language for the modelling of process. After that a 3D-Printer variant management process was prepared for an ordering process according to the 3D Printer in the TU Wien Pilot Factory.
